Christoffel Van Swoll

Governor-general of the Dutch East Indies since 1713 replacing Abraham van Riebeeck. Then in 1715 the appointment was approved by the Council Seventeen (Dewan Tujuhbelas). Van Swoll was born in Amsterdam in 1663 and went to the Dutch East Indies in 1683 as an assistant in the service of the VOC.  Since 1700 he became a member of the Indian Council on May 30, 1703 he and was also serving as president of Collegie van Scheepenen. Christoffel van Swoll served as governor-general until his death in 1718 in Batavia. His efforts to eradicate manipulation practices in the VOC could not be completed but it was continued by his successor, namely Henricus Zwaardecroon.
